Breakaway Business Advising
Carrie Hefner is a fractional CFO and Controller who specializes in job costing and WIP reporting for project-based businesses, and the owner of Breakaway Business Advising, a Breakaway Advising + Bookkeeping team. She helps owners see which projects, contracts, or loads are actually profitable, not just how much revenue came in.
She works primarily with general contractors, subcontractors, service trades, and non-profit organizations, giving them the clarity to make confident decisions, stay ahead of cash flow, and know their real margin on every project. Her background spans 20+ years in controller and CFO-level roles, including HR and operational systems work, giving her a practical understanding of how the office, the field, and the finance function actually connect.
Clients trust Carrie not just for clean books, but for straight talk, she tells owners what the numbers mean for their next bid, their next hire, and their next equipment purchase, before it’s too late to change course. She holds two MBAs from Eastern Washington University, one in Accounting and one in International Business.
